John Owen "Johnny" Cozart, Sr., 67, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, July 10, 2024. Racing was his life's passion and Johnny had become a well known fixture at both the Sportsdrome and Salem Speedway. Johnny was also an avid outdoorsman that enjoyed boating, camping and having cookouts with family and friends.
He was born on June 15, 1957 in Salem, Indiana to Clifford Cozart and Phyllis (Gilstrap) Crawford. Along with his parents, John was preceded in death by his grandson, Terry Cozart, Jr.; sister, Vicki Cozart; and brother-in-law, Mark Cecil.
Johnny is survived by his wife of over 46 years, Jolena (Criswell) Cozart; sons, John Jr. (Jenny), Terry (Nikki) Cozart; daughter, Kimberly (Kimmy) Cozart; 17 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; sisters, Bobbie Cecil, Barbara (Benny) Bolin; brothers, Mike (Betty), Danny (Penny), Randy (Rikki) Cozart, Jamie Crawford; and many nieces, nephews and good friends.
Visitation was Sunday and Monday, July 14-15,, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His funeral service was Monday at the funeral home, with cremation to follow according to Johnny's wish.
Contributions in his memory may be made to his family in care of the funeral home.
Leslie “Earl” Zollman Sr, age 58, of Salem passed away Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Baptist Health Floyd Hospital. Born January 20, 1965 to the late James Earl Zollman and Judith Zollman, who survives. On July 3, 1986, he married Kerrie (Adkins) Zollman, who survives.
Leslie is survived by his wife: Kerrie Zollman; his mother: Judith Zollman; 5 children; Brittney Zollman, E.J. Zollman, Ashley Glaab (Shawn), Lesley Breanna Bush (Eric) and Joshua Zollman; 3 brothers: Allen Zollman, Roger Dale Zollman, and Jason Zollman; 1 sister: Stephanie Zollman and 15 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father: James Earl Zollman; A baby niece; and his grandparents.
A celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at 6:00 P.M. at Hughes-Taylor Funeral Home – Salem Chapel with Steve Corp officiating. Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. until the time of service at the Funeral Home.
Hughes-Taylor Funeral Home was entrusted with funeral care.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the funeral home to help with funeral expenses.
Ronald Lee Martin, age 64, of Salem passed away Thursday, January 18, 2024 at his residence. Born September 14, 1959, he was the son of the late Kenneth Martin and Helen (Owens) Martin.
Ronald retired from OP Link Handle in Salem with 20 years of service. Ronald had also worked on the family farm and spent his recent years caring for his beloved cats.
He is survived by 1 sister: Susan Bates (James); Stepmother: Lucille Martin; 2 Stepbrothers: Terry Hammond (Ginny) and Tommy Hammond; 2 Niece; 5 Nephews and several Step Nieces and Nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 Brother: Roger Martin.
Direct Cremation was chosen. At this time no visitation or funeral service is scheduled.
Hughes-Taylor Funeral Home was entrusted with funeral care.
Ruth M. Nolan, a resident of Columbus, Indiana, passed from this life at 9:50 p.m. Saturday, January 20, 2024, at The Belmont Health & Rehabilitation at the age of 73.
Ruth was born in Salem, Indiana, June 4, 1950, the loving daughter of the late Albert and Christine McCubbins Jones. On July 13, 1969, Ruth married Everett V. Nolan; he survives.
A homemaker, Ruth was a member of the First Christian Church in Columbus. She was an avid bowler and she participated in various bowling leagues.
Ruth is survived by her husband of 54 years, Everett; children, Todd (Tammara Sparks) Nolan of Columbus and Ivy (Michael) Hornback of Columbus; granddaughters, Sylvia Hornback of Columbus, Isabelle Hornback of Columbus, and Tiffany McIntosh of Columbus; grandson, Clayton Hornback of Columbus; great-grandson, Archer McIntosh of Columbus, sister, Rachel Skeens of Salem; brother, William Jones of Salem; and many nieces, nephews, are other relatives.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Christine Jones and her brother, George Jones.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, January 26, 2024, at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street; Virgil Clotfelter will officiate.
Family and friends may gather for visitation from 5-8 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the funeral home.
Ruth will be laid to rest at the Garland Brook Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or any children’s hospital of the donor’s choice.
