On Thursday, Aug.1, at approximately 10:29 a.m., Washington County Sheriff’s Deputies along with members of emergency services responded to the area of 4475 E. Canton Road, as a pedestrian was reportedly struck by a vehicle.
At the scene, investigators determined that Anita Lee, age 65 of Franklin, Kentucky was driving eastbound on Canton Road in a white Cadillac XT6. Lee crested a hill in front of 4475 E. Canton Road and struck Russell Larson, age 54 of Pekin, who was using a gas powered string trimmer along the south side of the roadway. Larson was weed eating in the ditch with his back to the roadway, when he stepped backwards into the roadway and was struck by Lee’s vehicle.
The Washington County Ambulance Service transported Larson to the University of Louisville Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Sgt. Matthew Hein was the investigating officer and was assisted by Sgt. Tory Hildreth, Animal Control Officer Mike Wimmer and members of the Salem Fire Department.
