Carolyn Fay Hobson
Carolyn Fay Hobson, 85, formerly of Pekin, Indiana, departed this life at 11:55 PM on Sunday, February 23, 2025 surrounded by her loving daughters.
Carolyn entered the world on November 5, 1939 in Polk Township of Washington County, Indiana. She was the second of 6 children born to the late Woodrow and Lula (Jackson) Albertson.
She married Charles Wesley Hobson on January 27, 1962. Their blended family includes 3 sons and 3 daughters, all of whom survive: Teresa (Rick) Nichols of Salem, Bob (Debbie) Dunn of Mooresville, Sonia (Lonnie) Sullivan of Jeffersonville, Mike (Karen) Hobson of Pekin, Lori (John) Beasley of Stendal and David Hobson of Pekin.
In addition to her children, she is survived by her siblings Keith (Rita) Albertson of Salem and Ronnie Albertson of Clarksville, 14 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren (with #24 due at the end of July).
Carolyn was a long-time resident of Pekin and was a 25-year employee of Kimball Office Furniture in Borden and worked an additional 10 years at Childcraft. She was also a baptized member of Canton Christian Church.
Carolyn took full advantage of her golden years. She and her husband often took road trips and loved tending to their large vegetable garden. She had MANY hobbies, including embroidery, quilting, crochet, wood crafting and creating concrete block figures. The fruits of these hobbies were often gifted to her family and friends. If she wasn’t crafting, she could be found in her living room recliner, watching her favorite TV shows, reading, working on a word search or crossword puzzle or snuggling with her dog, Sophie.
One of her greatest accomplishments was being an active and present grandmother. There was rarely a sporting event, theatre production, graduation, wedding or birthday party that she did not attend. She was quick to offer a butterscotch or cinnamon candy from her purse. She would often call just to chat (or leave a lengthy voicemail if you weren’t there) and was known to make impromptu visits. She would go hours early to save a space for her family at the Pekin 4th of July Parade and no family gathering was complete without a batch of “Grandma’s Rice Krispie Treats.”
Although her final years were plagued with Lewy Body Demetia, Carolyn still had a life well- lived. She loved caring for her baby dolls (especially Baby Jack), eating anything sweet (Strawberry Ice Cream was a favorite), coloring with crayons and working puzzles. She had a knack for pushing herself anywhere she wanted to go in her wheelchair using just her tiny feet. And though her speech was limited near the end, she was able to communicate with her beautiful eyes, comical facial expressions and smiles that could brighten any room.
Carolyn was preceded in death by Wes, her husband of 54 years; brothers, Lowell Albertson & Michael Albertson; sisters-in-law, Rosie Albertson & Rhonda Alberston; infant sister, Loretha Albertson; and grandson Kyle Nicholson.
Visitation will take place at Dawalt Funeral Home on Friday, February 28th, from 4 to 8 PM and from 9 to 11 AM on Saturday, March 1st. The funeral service will begin at 11 AM and will be officiated by her son-in-law, John Beasley. Following the service, Carolyn will be laid to rest next to her husband at Olive Branch Cemetery in Pekin.
