Garilou Graves Crane
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Garilou Graves Crane, age 64, of Salem, Indiana, she passed away on October 30, 2024, at Norton's Health Pavilion in Louisville, KY
Born on November 9, 1959, in Frankfurt, Germany. She is survived by her husband Steve Crane, of 45 years. They were married on June 30, 1979 in Salem, Indiana. She is survived by her two children, Sara (Derek) Jones of Seymour, Indiana and Jacob (Amy) Crane of St. George, Utah.
She is survived by her parents, Gary P. Graves and Sylvia Tiedt Graves of Salem, her sister Melanie Graves of Bloomington and her brother Scott (Kimber) Graves of Sellersburg. Garilou was an adoring grandmother to 9 grandchildren Collyn (Tori), Alex, Mayce, Layla, Catie Jo, Aubry, Jillian, Cami and Noah, 2 great-grandchildren Everrette and Lettie.
She is also survived by her aunt, uncle, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Paul (MaryJoe) Graves and Thomas (Lois) Tiedt.
Garilou graduated in 1978 from Fort High School. She graduated from Spencerian College in 1979 with a degree in Fashion Merchandising. For 20 years, she built a successful career as a real estate broker and business owner, known for integrity, dedication, and genuine care for her clients.
After her time in real estate, she found a new calling working with children in the Title One Department at Salem Community Schools. Her passion for assisting young minds to become successful readers left an enduring impact on the lives of her students. She retired in 2019, devoting her days to family and sharing special moments as an active and loving grandmother.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Salem, Tri Kappa and PEO
Her family, friends, and all who knew her will cherish her memory and the legacy of love she leaves behind. How lucky we are to have someone in our lives that makes saying goodbye so hard.
Visitation for family and friends will be held at Dawalt Funeral Home on Friday November 1st. from 5 to 8 pm. Her services will be on Saturday, November 2nd at 11 am at Dawalt Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Steve Gorman officiating. Final interment will be immediately following at Crown Hill Cemetery in Salem. There will be a meal for the family at First Baptist Church of Salem.
