Iona Ruth Toliver
Iona Ruth Toliver, age 95 of Salem, passed away peacefully Friday, December 6, 2024, at her home.
Born November 6, 1929 in Leipsic, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Grace (Tarr) Jones.
Iona graduated in 1947 from Orleans High school and was a lifetime resident of Orange and Washington Counties. She was a former employee of the one-time B. F. Goodrich Company in Salem, a long-time school bus driver for Salem Community Schools, and a member of the First Christian Church of Salem. Iona loved raising gardenias, sewing, baking, playing cards, traveling, and visiting with friends and family.
On July 17, 1947, she married Robert Marshall Toliver, who passed away March 23, 2019, after 71+ years of marriage.
She was the proud mother and grandmother of 2 daughters, Mary Jane (Jed) Wheatley of Brownstown and Janet (Mark) Johns of Muncie, 5 grandchildren: Stephen (Diane) Wheatley, Hannah (Yunus Rafiq) Wheatley, Joanna (Joe) Reimann, Jeremy (Lisette) Johns, and Jason (Elise Yerelian) Johns; and 13 great grandchildren: Drew Wheatley, Riley Wheatley, Saige Wheatley, Jahangir Rafiq, Asuaka Rafiq, Avery Reimann, Nia Reimann, Kyra Reimann, Lincoln Reimann, Xander Johns, Winston Johns, Stanley Johns, and Wells Johns.
Iona was preceded in death by 3 brothers: Elvin, John Doyle (J.D.) and Raymond.
Funeral Service: 1:00 pm Wednesday at Dawalt Funeral Home in Salem, followed by interment in Crown Hill Cemetery.
Visitation: 10:30 am until the time of the funeral on Wednesday.
