Carolyn A. Sullivan
By: Dawalt Funeral Home
Carolyn Ann Sullivan, age 89 of Salem, passed away Thursday, March 28, 2024 surrounded by her family at her home.
Born January 11, 1935 in Salem, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Alvin Robert and Mary Gayle (Walton) Maudlin
She adored her children: Johnny (Lea Ann) Sullivan, Philip Sullivan, Carol Sue Sullivan and Sherri (Greg) Purkhiser; her grandchildren: Ashley Tarr, Jared Sullivan, Olivia Harlamert, Nyle Sullivan, Dusty Sullivan, Megan Sullivan, Dylan Sullivan and Paige Bavaro; 12 great grandchildren and one on the way.
She is also survived by 2 brothers, Robert LaRue Maudlin of Orleans and Gary Maudlin of Salem.
Carolyn had been a life resident of Washington County, a 1953 Salem High School graduate and attended Spencerian College in Louisville.
She owned and operated Sullivan's Community Grocery, worked at the old Bata Shoe Factory and was a private home caregiver for many years.
Her children and grandchildren were her treasure. She loved all the holiday get-togethers and birthday parties. She cross stitched all her children and grandchildren a quilt, traveled to Branson, Missouri 15 times, the Grand Ole Opry, the Ryman, Loretta Lynn Ranch, Butcher Holler and anywhere to hear old time country music. A plaque on her carport said, "Gone to Bingo" and she always had a Circle the Word Search, by her chair.
In the last few years, Carolyn was thankful for her caregivers and those who gave her a ride to and from church.
Thanks to Care First Home Health for caring for her in her last days.
She was preceded in death by 2 sons: Johnny and Philip Sullivan and 1 brother: Miles Maudlin.
Funeral Service: 11:00 am Saturday at Dawalt Funeral Home, followed by interment in Crown Hill Cemetery.
Visitation: 4 to 8 pm Friday and 9 am until the time of the service on Saturday
