On Monday, February 17, at approximately 4:32 p.m., members of emergency services responded to a two-vehicle accident near the intersection of State Road 60 East and Aurora Drive in Salem.
Upon arrival, deputies observed a white 2019 Ford Transit sitting stationary in the eastbound lane of State Road 60. The left front corner of the Ford Transit was pinned against the right rear side of a white 2015 Ford F-650 rollback tow-truck. The driver of the Ford Transit was trapped inside of the vehicle and unable to free the lower half of his body.
The driver of the Ford Transit was identified as Jared Roman, age 48 of Sellersburg, Indiana. The driver of the Ford F-650 was identified as Jermaine Franklin, age 48 of Jeffersonville, Indiana.
Driver statements and evidence at the scene indicate that Roman was traveling eastbound on State Road 60 and Franklin was stopped in the eastbound lane of State Road 60 waiting to turn left onto Aurora Drive. Evidence indicates that Roman failed to slow down and collided with the right rear of the Ford F-650 tow truck.
Roman was extricated from the vehicle by members of the Salem Fire Department and was transported to the University of Louisville Hospital by Air Methods KY-7 for non life-threatening injuries. Franklin refused medical treatment at the scene.
Deputy Seth Goode is the lead investigator and was assisted by Deputy Hailee Lopotosky, members of the Salem Police Department, Salem Fire Department and the Washington County Ambulance Service.
The crash remains under investigation.
