David Eugene Souder
David Eugene Souder, age 71, of Pekin, Indiana left this earthly life to be with the Lord in His fold of safety after a year-long battle with pancreatic cancer, on Monday, October 7, 2024 at 11:35 a.m. in his home, surrounded by his family and loved ones.
Born February 20, 1953 in Salem, Indiana to Glen Souder and Jean (Applegate) Souder Kay, David was a 1971 graduate of Eastern High School in Pekin. He was a lifetime farmer and had retired only from dairy farming in 2019. He was a bus driver for Borden-Henryville School Corporation and was in his 35th year of serving as a Director/Board Member at Washington County Rural Telephone Cooperative, Inc. dba Tele-Media Solutions.
He was a member of Pekin Church of Christ and attended South Liberty Church of Christ in Palmyra.
David was an avid hunter of all things wild, including but not limited to deer, elk, turkeys, coyotes, quail, squirrels, rabbits, and mushrooms and was almost always seen with his dog in the back of his truck. He was a fisherman, a Harley motorcycle rider, and a University of Louisville basketball enthusiast during the Denny Crum era. David enjoyed tractor pulls, antique cars, and watching his four grandchildren play in an array of sports over the years.
David was very well-known as a fervent jokester and prankster with a sense of humor that was unmatched. He was the life of every party, never met a stranger, and was always willing to lend a helping hand.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Glen & Jean; his grandparents, Jesse & Cleon Souder and Ruth & Raymond Applegate; and his stepfather, Victor Kay.
He is survived by his son and daughter, Jeremy (Tammi) Souder and Jessica (Shawn) Edge, both of Pekin; four grandchildren: Casey Rose (Easton) Bishop, Jaden James Cheatwood, Jazlyn Blair Edge, and Jaxie Isabelle Edge; two step grandchildren: Jessica (Cory) Batt and Cheyce (Logan) Thomas; two sisters: Glenda (John) Davis of Owasso, Oklahoma and Tami (Roger) Nash of Mt. Olive, Alabama; and his fiance and best friend, Susan Collins, of Greenville, Indiana.
Services will be held at Weathers Funeral Home in Salem, Friday, October 11 at 11:00A.M. and will be officiated by Jeremy Goen and John Denny . Visitation will be Thursday, October 10 from 4:00P.M.-8:00P.M and Friday from 9:00A.M. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Olive Branch Cemetery in Pekin.
